About Me

I am a specialist in lower limb orthopaedics and sports conditions. I take referrals for soft tissue hip and knee injuries, major joint arthroplasty, knee and ankle arthroscopy and general foot and ankle conditions. My main interest is in knee surgery and sports injuries.

I host expert learning sessions at Goole and Spire Hull Hospitals for partial knee and computer navigated total knee replacements. In addition I undertake complex and revision knee replacement. I also am trained in less invasive techniques in hip replacement. In 1992 I qualified from St Bartholomew’s Hospital Medical School, London. As a specialist registrar on the SW Thames circuit I spent over 2 years as a senior trainee with consultants who work at the Elective Orthopaedic Centre specialising in hip and knee surgery subsequently becoming a locum consultant there. I passed the specialty exam FRCS (Tr & O) in 2006. In my training I undertook a fellowship in New Zealand (2002) focused on trauma and knee surgery. I also undertook full time research in 2004/5 at Imperial College London under the supervision of Prof. A.A.Amis studying the anatomy of the ACL and PCL of the knee and subsequently publishing a number of articles regarding cruciate ligament reconstruction and writing a thesis for a Master of Surgery degree.

I have a postgraduate Diploma in Sports and Exercise Medicine from the University of Bath (2001) and was awarded the degree of Master of Surgery (MS), University of London in 2011. I took up a locum consultant post at Epsom and St Helier’s NHS Trust and the Elective Orthopaedic Centre (EOC) in January 2009. In May 2010 I was appointed as a substantive consultant orthopaedic surgeon at Goole Hospital (part of the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust). In September 2010 I was granted practicing privileges at The Spire Hull and East Riding Hospital, Anlaby, Hull.

With the help of my physiotherapy colleagues, I set up a Sports Injuries Triage Clinic at The Spire Hospital which runs on a Thursday evening aimed at amateur and semi professional sports people.  I have a close working relationship with a sports therapist and a physiotherapist who own Flex Health in Hull, and a  strength and conditioning coach and owner of Edge EPT (both companies look after a professional athletes as clients). I run a sports injury clinic at Flex Health Hull on a Saturday morning.

In addition to my surgical work, I was a pitchside doctor for Hull KR rugby league club, now being a consultant to Hull FC. In addition I am club doctor for Hull Ionians rugby union club and also Doctor to Yorkshire County Rugby Club.

I am married to Rochelle, a Kiwi who is a personal trainer and ex-nurse and have 2 children.
